8-Bit Music Maker is an online sequencer developed by hmnwilson
. It was released on November 15, 2015 on the Scratch website
and is designed around the 2A03, the NES's CPU and sound chip.

Four sample songs are provided, plus a hidden Megalovania cover (type "sans" without the quotation marks).

Usage

Hold the Shift key while clicking the green flag, otherwise an error will occur. This enables Turbo Mode, which enables code to execute as fast as possible. Click the green flag again to start the program.

Songs can contain up to 99 pages of 32 short, predefined notations from octaves C3-B4 (noise only goes up to #D4) and play at tempos between 100-400 BPM. Unlike the 2A03, which only has five channels (two pulse and one triangle, noise and PCM), there is no PCM, but notes can be placed anywhere on each column except for multiple pulse waves in the same position, for a total of 72 channels.

Clicking the green flag does not clear the song data. Instead, the 9 key must be held for three seconds.

More in-depth usage can be found by clicking Help, or additionally rolling over each button to find out their hotkeys where available.

Exporting

Click "Get Code" to bring up the instructions to export a text file. Please note Scratch 3.0 simply exports the file as Code.txt, as it is stored in a list named Code.

The program cannot export to an audio file directly. Instead, the device's audio has to be recorded in software, such as Audacity
, or alternatively via a physical audio recorder.
