Helloo! I'm a visual creator/designer & enthusiast of various music formats and synthesis, pushing myself to make more music + learning to work within the limitations of the chips.

The BotB community has long been an inspiration and source of music I love to listen to, so If you're reading this, thanks for being awesome <3

A while back, I got kinda upset upon discovering the huge but generally overlooked potential for sound design within the MT-32 and spent time learning to edit it. There is a section about editing the MT-32 in the lyceum, but if you have any questions on this topic, I would be genuinely delighted to help :)

Also I could render from hardware for you with any of the following devices. Feel free to ping me on discord or wherevs for this if you like.

Consoles / Computers

  • Sega Genesis / MD (both YM2612 discrete + audio mod & YM3438 asic version).
  • OPL3/Adlib (via a toshiba laptop)
  • SNES / SFC (60hz, 1chip variant + audio mod)
  • NES / FC (60hz, stereo output)
  • Gameboy (+ "prosound" mod)
  • Game Gear / SMS (+ audio mod)
  • *VIC-20
  • *atari 2600

  • *still need to fix :/

LA / GM / GS / XG sound sources

    • Roland MT-32 "old" variant (firmware v1.07, new capacitors)
    • Roland MT-32 "new" variant (firmware v2.04)
    • Roland CM-64 (CM-32L+CM-32P)
    • Roland RA-50 (CM-32L w/o the extra sounds but nicer output stage).
    • Korg 05R/W
    • Nokia N70 (Symbian phone + line output adapter cable)
    • Kawai DRP-10 / (GM)
    • Yamaha DOU-10 (GM)
    • Roland SC-55 (GS)
    • Roland SC-88 Pro (GS)
    • Yamaha MU50 (XG)
    • Yamaha MU2000EX (XG)
    • Yamaha MU10 (module version of DB50XG card: XG + QS300 patch compatible)
    • Yamaha eVY1 NSX-1 (eVocaloid + basic XG on ch# 2-16. It uses the YMW820-S chip, basically the brain of a pocket miku w/ VY1 voice).

Thank you!! It’s been really fun :-)
I made the avatar in aseprite— setup the position of the planet, then painted some fuzzy blobs and animated them for a few frames (ensuring continuity with the onion skin view). Once the animation was working more or less as a loop, just selected the inverse of the planet and chopped off the messy edge of the painted blobs. Then added some dithered shading on top of everything to add dimensionality and crunchy pattern interaction between the layers.

Is there a way you can set up SoundDiver to work with MUNT?

Hi Kot! Yes, it should work nearly the same as with hardware. The main difference is that the communication is only one direction: SoundDiver can talk to munt, but not the other way around. This means that SoundDiver can't detect it automatically or request the current state of the device, neither of which are critical at all.

I would guess that it could be more complicated with the vsti version, but it will for sure work for the standalone munt application without any special setup.

Check out the note on this topic in the Lyceum
