Got to try out a bunch of random techniques, that was fun :)

Made for my nodejs bytebeat player at https://pastebin.com/xwtRgcfV . Doesn't work with greggman's online version unfortunately, might spend a bit of time to fix it later. Sits at a comfy 979 bytes, without totally minifying the crap out of it (version with some notes, before I started cutting it down: https://pastebin.com/UiqNkH79 ).

Pastebin links work now, the punctuation was getting stuck into the links.

As to how I did it, magic -- or you can read the code yourself :P

Man, I need to implement FM synthesis like this sometimes. But I think I'm fine with my beeper-ish engine that doesn't utilize math functions.

FM (or at least phase modulation) is actually pretty simple to implement, it boils down to sine of (t + another sine of t). Here's a great visualization of how it works.

In my entry it's the function named fm. ms and md control the modulator level/decay, s and d control the carrier level/decay, n controls the carrier pitch, and t is time. My older version
had modN as the control for modulator/carrier pitch ratio but I ended up not needing it. Hope that helps explain things!
