hey, super cool and all that we got all this nice formats this year. (thank you, thanks!) yes. that's great, but please add every format, i need a wide range of diversity because i'm so indecisive. thank you for your consideration (thank you, thanks!).
[ ] AdLib

I'm being very optimistic this time around. I'd love Amiga MOD and C64 as formats too, but *shrug*
I would very much like to make this my debut BotB compo! Any chance of C64 being made available? I have a couple of ideas that I’d like to piece together and share... Also, Super Famicom, yes, I think I’ll be having a go at that...
ohhh, I hope Santa brings me the time and mental fortitude to at least do a MIDI or SMS this time. (I know he already did his thing yesterday and didn't bring me that, but I'm hoping he'll come back through.)
Ho ho ho ,open up your door....after 10/11 Years of my last Competition entry here @ 3xTheme Chip ][ , i am back and hope ich got enough time to spend it to the WinterChip XIV, it would be an Honor for me :)
PS. can it be that I am here at age 50, the oldest at botb ^ ^
Uncle SID-N00b needz HALP. I'm having issues understanding how
filter delegation on channels work in DefleMask, for example
I have 1 instrument with filter enabled (and init enabled), it plays fine in channel 1.
I have Another instrument with filter enabled, but it wont filter
on channel 2 or 3. not even with 1401 for all channels,.
Do I have the wrong approach here? I basically want the filter envelope to work for all channels, not just the first one.

@Strobe if you wanna deactivate filter on a certain channel in Defle, I believe you need to mark the option "apply filter to instrument", but with no filter activated 'on the target instrument'. I'm not totally sure, since I barely use the C64 side of Deflemask. Honestly, you really should go with GoatTracker. It's not that hard to learn :P
I have fiddled a bit with GoatTracker Before, so that is my second option if I can't get this to work properly, it is just easier for me to use DefleMask at the moment since i'm more knowledgeable in that tracker currently ;)

Now that I look at it, I didn't actually pay enough attention to your issue. I guess you may have to make a copy of the target instruments you wanna add filter, but with the configurations you wanna use, because Deflemask :/

hey, if im making an adlib entry in .mptm (or even .s3m for that matter, as long as im doing it in openmpt) format, what limitations should i adhere to? (aside from the obvious ones such as no filters, no PCM samples, i mean more stuff like "how many channels should i use?" "is there a max number of instruments i can have?" etc etc)
yeah but how many channels? on openmpt apparently i can have 32 channels and notes playing on all of them at the same time, but would that work on real hardware? what are the real hardware limitations i should play attention to?
edit: nevermind, i found out its 9 upon saving the module (openmpt warned me that "This module has more than 9 OPL channels, which is not supported by Scream Tracker 3.") oops
edit 2: if i remember correctly, adlib tracker II has a channel limitation of 18 channels. so would a 18-channel mptm file be a valid entry, even though s3m only supports 9 channels, since adlib tracker II supports 18?
if anything just make a 18-channel opm-only s3m file, open that in adlib tracker 2, resave and submit the .a2m file
but having mptm as a valid format would be useful since we'd have access to volume/pan/pitch envelopes and other cool stuff that i know im forgetting
linked 2op instruments (to make a 4op instrument) take up 2 channels of space on adlib tracker, so keep that in mind if youre doing opl3 stuff beyond the usual realm of just extra waveforms.
really, what mptm needs is a player that can play it back on hardware that has an adlib soundcard, otherwise opl3 is more in the realms of a vst than it is support
i dont think 4-op instruments are possible on openMPT but i could be wrong
also yeah thats a good point; even though it technically runs on hardware, if there isnt a mptm player for it then it cannot be played on hardware therefore shouldn't be accepted
someone should probably create a forum thread to discuss that
From what I understand adlib is OPL2 with 9 channels mono, and the soundblaster (and maybe adlib gold) are OPL3 with 18 channels stereo. I'm sure there's someone here that knows this off the top of their head better than I do...
If i'm not mistaken OpenMPT will not play more than 18 OPLx voices at once, and if you exceed that, it's just going to lead to voice stealing, but yeah for the real HW it's either 18-channels of 2OP instruments, and 9 for 4OP (if i'm getting it right they can be mixed, but 4OP ones will always eat 2 out of 18 voices)
Citing that site: So let's clear some facts. First, OPL3 has only thirty-six (36) operators which can be combined in several ways:
18 FM channels (36 operators), or
15 FM channels (30 ops) and 5 percussion instruments (6 ops), giving us 20 channels altogether, or
up to 6 four-operator FM channels (max 24 ops), the rest again being divided into two-operator FM channels and drums.
From the table above you can see that not all channels can be used in four- operator (4-OP) mode -- only a part of the synthesizer is really capable of making 4-OP sounds -- the rest uses traditional two-operator (2-OP) mode.
Second, the manual states this card is capable of "stereo" music. Yes, the quotes are necessary, because the stereo capabilities are very limited. You are given ability to control output going to left or right channel by turning it on and off. That's all. So the sound can flow from very left side, center and very right side. No sound panning, no special stereo effects. :-(
A little psa since I just saw Chip Champ rant about non-working MAME:
MAME versions 0.193 - 0.204 had a bug in the F8 core which broke Sleizsa Trio. It's been fixed in 0.205 so either upgrade to that or stick with your legacy MESS builds :D
Also why is Chip Champion a chipist when everyone else is a Chipist? hmmmm guess when I grow up I wanna be a Cheapist.
