Winter Chip XIII prediction:
- Starts with 1 format
- Said format is one that all BotBrs want to make music on THE LEAST
- Formats unlock one at a time from the most UNPOPULAR to the most POPULAR
- puke7 evil chuckles
I have been working on an Adlib track.
If Adlib becomes available as a category, I will enter.
If Adlib does not become available as a category, I will not enter.
I will try to at least have another go at album art.
As much as I hate to say it, I think there has to be some sort of "official" decision about using SnoozeTracker.
There has been some discussion about this on IRC already. Some say it's OK, some say it isn't.
Imo it's not OK, because it basically forces evryone to use SnoozeTracker to seriously compete in the format, and even more importantly, it ruins the aesthetic of the format, as the results don't really sound like SMS music anymore.
Maybe a special format would be the best solution (if there is enough interest). I mean, we have 5 different NES formats to clearly differentiate between the different settings etc. Something similar could apply here.
I realize this is kind of a grey area and it's hard to make a decision, but that's why there should be a discussion and a definitive decision.
This is not meant to be some sort of mean attack on the people using SnoozeTracker btw, it's quite the opposite. I think a clear decision would be best for everyone. Otherwise SnoozeTracker entries would probably just get low scores from people who don't think it's OK to use it.
I don't expect Snoozetracker to really catch on anyways just like SuperNSF. Some users will use it, but often to somewhat lower quality and users prefering normal sounding SN7 entries and thus voting those higher than Snooze entries.
Besides as I see there are some users who already have problems with Snoozetracker working/opening is already tackling Snooze from building up a userbase altogether.
So before a debacle is started just like the SuperNSF discussion that was posted in an old bulletin here on BotB, let's first watch if the use is sustained (or is used at all to be honest).
I don't even know what SnoozeTracker is. There are only 3 NSF formats, not 5. The majority can agree that a tool isn't appropriate, but that won't stop n00bs from using it if it works in common players and hardware. It's much like me wishing that everyone would use bytebeat in its simplest form (an abstract algorithm against time) instead of making tools that produce accessible tunes that will run in bytebeat.
@puke7 I just made a test track using Snoozetracker, which plays fine in windows vgm player, and winamp, but when I rendered it to an SMS rom using Maxin's SMS VGM player, it didn't come out right AT ALL. Until the player has rom output, or someone makes a rom based vgm player for it, I think the entries should be moved to "all gear" or "wild chip", since for the time being they can't play in an SMS emulator and/or hardware. Of course, if the rom output gets addressed then I think they should totally qualify as legit SMS entries.
Thought I should post it here since there are already entries using the tracker.
is too soon to ask for an expansion? i have been working on something for Winter Chip XIII since before the start of this year and regardless i barely had sleep by focusing on get it done, i think an expansion could come great! =' 3
