oh also @azura: spring tracks is not a "mixist" major like winterchip is a "chip" major: it (mostly) puts the focus instead on trackers, hence spring "tracks". that's why there is a mix of chipist and mixist formats
PSA for those who entering mod8k: The latest version of OpenMPT (1.26.09.00, at least the one I have) saves the useless blank data to the .it file regardless if it's a compatibility export. This results in a 5KB file on a blank .it module. Also, please don't use munch.py
Edit: I think it has something to do with "embed macro configuration when saving" checkbox which I couldn't uncheck it in my OpenMPT somehow.

I would be really glad to have a "classic DOS module" format ^^
I also started an entry in that one, and 8K is a challenge, but so small to produce a decent and time consistent track ^^ specially for an .xm freak like me
i know that it's the fun of the whole thing, and i dont wanna be a party pooper, but, like,
i wanna share this contest with my friends, but its kinda hard to be like "okay... so you can do allgear...but it doesnt exist yet... but it WILL! er, i mean, it probably will...but it hasnt in some years, but puke7 promised, well actually he DIDNT promise so.. uh... but last time it was there so..."
> "my friends are lame and want to submit allgears to a tracker battle but i can't promise them allgear will be available because puke never made that promise" ...yup
to be 100% fair to my lame friends, one does not simply jump 100% into botb and tracker madness immediately. i expect that my friends would be more interested if they could ease in slowly, first by doing allgear to see what it's all about, and then moving on to other formats.
i'm not trying to be critical or anything; botb is an awesome place and i highly respect it. however at times it seems like it is difficult to understand for outsiders, and people who aren't as into tracking (who may have ended up being interested if only they could have been eased in!).
i'm not sure if botb being difficult to get into is your intent or not. either way, like i said, i fully respect you and this site. though, tbh, it does make me a bit sad that there is this kinda cool and magical place that a lot of people will not be able to understand or experience. botb is legitimately my favorite music community on the internet, so i find it sad that it's hard to share it with others.
The thing I learned about BotB is that it has to be learned.
Usability is a crapshoot? That's how it was meant to be.
You credit your own entries? Perish that thought when you do OHBs.
Post your song on a multitude of outlets? What comes to BotB stays in BotB*.
You prefer someone else's cooking? You will eat puke7's food and you will like it.
You keep your shoes on when you enter someone's house? You're in puke7's house now, you take your goddamn shoes off at the d--okay i'll stop
Nothing happened to it per se. If it's something pukey wants to add to the battle, then we'll have to unlock it by submitting tracks of the formats that are already present. But we won't know if it's something he's planning to add until he adds it!

Too bad the latest version is currently not out for Mac. I discovered the original topic suggestion from 2011, and commented it on 2014 about four months before my G5 died out on me. I myself am tempted to make an 8K entry...
KFF: Have you tried building the latest version from source? That's how I'm running it on my machine, though it's a slightly more involved process. IIRC you have to get and build the klystron repo first before you build the klystrack repo, and when you run it you have to make sure you have the res/ files in the right place.

My attempt at building Klystrack has been stopped by trying to wrangle with getting SDL_Image to be recognized by the compiler after downloading it... although realizing that there is an XCode project at least mitigates this problem... kind of.
Jangler: klystrack keyboard support seems okay (has shortcuts to different screens and pages, can tab through parameters), what in particular are you looking for?
DoctorGentleman: They don't quite work out of the box for those of us(?) using OpenMPT on Wine (see: https://forum.openmpt.org/index.php?topic=5448.0 - works with winetricks dsdmo + 32-bit OpenMPT, or some other setup I'm still trying to figure out for 64-bit version, or use version 1.27 which can emulate the DMO effects), but hey, Wine users are already in not-so-supported land anyway :P
@Jangler - For instrument editor at least, I've discovered up/down scrolls through parameters and left/right changes the parameters (even for the check boxes, lol...). Not the most intuitive setup, though it is sort of there at least. In the pattern editor, page up/down/home/end works for skipping through the pattern.
Ah! I got a Deflemask entry in. YM2151 is sexy :). Also, yes if VGMM's .vge format actually becomes a thing I will make something that specifically exploits the hell out of its' inaccuracies :D. Abuse the weird SSG-EG, take down global volume so I can use overly distorted TL instruments, maybe even make a custom over clocked tempo because holy shit VGMM is my jam. Some may think that having both Deflemask and VGMM in the same compo is redundant but trust me it isn't. It has its' own quirks and workflow and if you can exploit it for its' own strangeness rather than worrying about if it will play back a VGM properly...well I dare say you'll have yourself an interesting FM-chip tracker variant I reckon :D. I don't know if I see it happening but if it does oh boy oh boy oh boy oh- Abrupt cutoff* Also these formats are weird and I like you guys <3.
We should respect noobs completely: being a "noob" in botb has nothing to do with being a "noob" in chiptunes, music, or as a person ^^
It's not like in gaming comunities, where the noobs are those who indeed, don't know much yet
i've always felt that here, the rookies are unnecessarily badly treated 😭
I may not be participating whatsoever in this compo but,
Patience is rewarded guys. You may or may not get better resluts from the extension but at least you'll likely get more votes on the entries that need them. Remember not everyone is able to vote as soon as votes are open; some need more time.
