no you'll say you'll do the first two and then you'll be like "WELL MAAAAAYYYYBBBEEEEEE i'll do the first one if it gets extended by a week" and then if it gets extended you'll be like "oh whoops looks like i won't have time to enter, SORRY" and then everyone will pretend to feel sorry and you will criticize yourself for not entering and fabricate artificial disappointed emotion in your speech for the following week
and then you'll be like "oh it's ok i'll just wait for winter chip lol i guess whatever"
Also, I'm actually writing that OPL3 tracker now (in C with DJGPP). :D
it's gonna be a bit weird and made pretty much just for myself -- gonna have 9 paired 2OP channels -- effectively 4OP with the algorithm fixed as 1*2+3*4 and I'm gonna be as lazy as I can when implementing everything
but it will happen -- probably not before the compo ends though watch this space, I'm serious!
This isn't proving to be a terribly hard project so far, just one with somewhat sparse documentation, you'll probably see a build soon enough.
really, most of the remaining work is slamming together an interface and then making it so I can save/load files.
Does it actually, Savestate? Could one, if one so desired, submit a 2A03-only NSF to NSF+ and have that be tournament-legal? I know that this isn't the question you were answering just now, but I am independently curious about this.
You can submit a song that doesn't use expansion audio at all to an NSF+, it's a superset of the NSF format on this site.
sure, you'd be at a disadvantage going up against entries using expansions, but it's otherwise fine
as for 7bit PCM -- that's ostensibly allowed in even in normal NSF compos unless explicitly disallowed by the host -- it's a trick you can do without any additional hardware on the cart, driven in software, and I've used SuperNSF to produce NSF music with PCM channels before on this site (up to 4 software mixed channels, although with all 4 enabled, it sounds utterly awful)
take note that none of this is strictly binding despite the admin logo next to my name, but you will certainly be fine submitting an entry without expansion audio to the NSF+ format :Y
I'm just happy I got a decent number of songs in this time, and even a battle art! It'd be AWESOME to get a gold in something but I'm not counting on it. It's probably going to be something like Jayster taking Wild Chip, Apoc takes Sega Genesis, CheeChee or however you spell his name takes Turbo Graphix, and I am not sure about NSF +. Too many entries :). I DO think I have a slight chance at giving S-Gen and PC-Engine a run for their money as it has the least amount of songs out of the categories I entered and I feel my best songs are in those categories. My wild chip entry is doing decent as is my NSF +, but only my close friends liked my battle art ha ha ha. It's all good. Either way it's been fun and I can't wait to do it again :D.
Gah! I'll probably be able to at least say hi in the chat for a little while but some stupid awesome dear friends of mine are having a surprise 50th anniversary party/picnic thing, and I'd look like a real jerk if I didn't attend. Oh sure life, pretend I have friends and a social life today. That's just great. Now I have to miss the internet :( lolol. No, but seriously it should be fun and I am hardly ever one to pass up good friends and good food. Buuuut...battle of the bits I still love you.
