Dreamhost killed the two IP_tracking tables because certain mysql calls were bogging the entire server -- there were complaints or something -- newly optimized code has shaven about a whole half second off of every page load and not only that but every Playa flag call is about 100x as fast too!! The 'top tens' page now seems to load eloquently.
